Overview

If you’re looking to treat someone to a weekend break away in Wales, why not surprise them with this Visit Wales Gift break for two.

Once you have purchased your Visit Wales Gift break, you will be able to spend time selecting the perfect location for your break from the wide range of locations featured on the right.

Famous as the ‘land of song’, the cultural and historical heritage of Wales is evident almost everywhere, making for a fascinating weekend break destination. There are must-see areas, such as the unbelievably picturesque village of Portmerion which was designed to create the atmosphere of the Mediterranean in north Wales, and has been the setting for many television shows and films.

Although Rugby might be the national sport, Wales also has plenty of alternatives which you won’t find anywhere else, such as the national Bog Snorkelling championships during which competitors must take on a peat bog without using any traditional swimming strokes. If running is more your style, you could try the Man vs. Horse marathon, or for the even more enthusiastic you can race a train along the Talyllyn Steam Railway.

If all that’s not enough inspiration, you could spend a couple of days mastering the longest place name in Europe: Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch means "St. Mary's Church by the white aspen over the whirlpool and St. Tyllio's Church by the red cave" and has long been considered somewhat of a challenge to anyone wishing to immerse themselves in the Welsh language.

One night stay for two people including English breakfast.

Northop Hall (near Chester, North Wales)

Verity from National Accounts, July 2018

What did you get up to?
We went and stayed at Northop Hall Hotel as we were going to Zipworld (for zip lining which was amazing) which is a short drive from the hotel. We also went into Chester town centre in the evening a for a meal and also went to the local castle for an evening stroll. The hotel room was lovely and the bed was huge! The hotel was in absolutely beautiful grounds and so much countryside around – lots of places to go for walks. Breakfast was delicious and made from locally sourced ingredients, just what we needed before a busy day!

What did you enjoy the most?
We enjoyed coming back to the hotel and relaxing after a jam packed day!
